In the pursuit of health and well-being, people often explore a diverse array of healing practices, some of which may differ significantly from conventional medical approaches. One powerful concept that has gained popularity in the realm of alternative healing is the idea of “stagnant energy.” Rooted in traditional Eastern medicine and holistic philosophies, this concept suggests that disruptions in the flow of vital life energy within the body can lead to various physical, emotional, and mental imbalances. In this blog post, we delve into the notion of stagnant energy, exploring its potential impact on health and wellness, and how it is addressed in alternative healing modalities.

Physics teaches us that everything is energy! Quantum physics in the 20th century discovered that physical atoms are vortices of energy that are constantly vibrating. And that every material structure in the Universe—including you and me—radiates a unique energy signature. This implies that the body is more than just a collection of functioning parts. Actually every material structure has it’s own unique energy frequency, each organ has its very own energy field which is continually changing.

At the core of many traditional healing systems, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda, this life force energy is known as “Qi” in TCM and “Prana” in Ayurveda. According to these ancient philosophies, this vital energy circulates through pathways or channels, nourishing organs, tissues, and the mind. The harmonious flow of Qi or Prana is considered crucial for maintaining health and balance in the body.

It is believed that all conditions of disease (dis-ease) are rooted in this energy system. When the flow of the “Life Force Energy” is disrupted, emotional and/or health problems tend to occur. Imbalances can be caused by many situations occurring in our lives such as emotional/physical trauma, injury, negativity, nutritional depletion, poor lifestyle habits, pathogens, lack of love for oneself or others, and emotions that are not expressed in a healthy way.

Some common manifestations of stagnant energy include:

  • Physical Discomfort: Stiffness, muscle tension, headaches, and unexplained aches are often associated with stagnation of energy in specific areas of the body.
  • Low Energy and Fatigue: A sense of fatigue, lethargy, and lack of vitality may result from the body’s inability to maintain a balanced flow of energy.
  • Emotional Turmoil: Stagnant energy can affect emotional states, leading to mood swings, anxiety, irritability, and feelings of being stuck in life.
  • Digestive Disturbances: Disruptions in the smooth flow of energy may cause digestive issues like bloating, indigestion, or irregular bowel movements.
  • Sleep Problems: Difficulty falling asleep or maintaining restful sleep patterns can be related to stagnant energy affecting the body’s ability to relax.
  • Unexplained Pain: Some individuals may experience persistent pain in certain areas of the body without any apparent physical cause.
  • Weakened Immune System: Stagnant energy may compromise the body’s natural defense mechanisms, making it more susceptible to illnesses.

Addressing Stagnant Energy:

Alternative healing modalities seek to restore the balance of energy flow in the body and address the root cause of stagnation. Practices that have become more well known such as  acupuncture, acupressure, Ayurvedic therapies, yoga, meditation, and reiki energy healing are often employed to unblock energy pathways, and get the energy flowing to promote healing.

Over the years I’ve witnessed countless clients benefit from a multimodality approach to healing. We are not only a physical body, but an energetic body and thus the physical and energy body both need to be supported simultaneously.  I recently became certified as a Reiki Master and am thrilled to be adding this support for my clients. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing.

Reiki is a specific type of energy work that is performed by simply “laying of hands” (on or off the body) in person or remotely (energy travels) allowing the flow of energy from a limitless source (Divine Force/Source/God/Higher Power/Creator) to the client through the Reiki practitioner. Reiki has been effective in helping virtually every known illness by balancing the human energy fields (Auras) and energy centers (Chakras) to create the conditions needed for the body to function at its best capacity.

I’m amazed at how much of a difference energy healings, including reiki have made in my personal wellbeing and I’m excited and honored to be able to pass these forward to my clients. I welcome you to check out a sampling of the energy work I do.
