Humans have evolved through an intimate connection with the Earth and its natural energy force. Before shoes, bikes and cars were ever invented, we foraged for our food with our bare feet directly on the ground, we danced barefoot around fires, we gardened in the dirt with our bare hands, everything we created was through our bodily connection to the Earth. All living creatures on this planet, including humans, naturally emit and absorb energy from the Earth. Unfortunately, today’s modern world has far removed us from our primal connection we once had with the Earth’s subtle energy. With some simple steps, you can reacquaint yourself with the planet’s natural energy and its healing properties.

Earthing, also referred to as grounding, “simply means reconnecting the human body which is conductive to the Earth’s natural and subtle surface electric charge” (Science Direct.com). The Earth is essentially a battery which is powered by solar radiation, lightning and heat from deep within its molten core. These energetic pulses from the Earth are what keeps life running on the planet and that includes humans!

So how does this actually work?

When your skin connects with the earth, free electrons are taken up into the body. This is because the body is mostly composed of water and minerals which in combination makes excellent electron conductors.  The Earth’s negatively charged electrons can be referred to as nature’s biggest antioxidants and help neutralize damaging positively charged free radicals that can lead to inflammation and disease in the body.  When your skin touches the Earth you become a conductive channel for electrons to flow through.

Over the years, inflammation has come to the forefront of medical attention and has been recognized as the leading trigger of chronic diseases. Our bodies are on fire and Earthing appears to extinguish the flames! That’s very exciting, and it costs nothing to get outside, take your shoes off and walk barefoot!

What are the benefits?

The scope of Earthing’s effects in the body, based on both research and a large volume of anecdotal reports include, but not limited to:

  • Reduces inflammation
  • Reduces pain
  • Reduces stress
  • Increases energy
  • Improves sleep
  • Improves blood pressure and blood flow
  • Improves immune system
  • Normalizes biological rhythms including circadian rhythm
  • Protects the body from effects of EMFs
  • Shortens recovery time from injury or athletic activity
  • Helps support adrenal health
  • Leaves you with a feeling of greater well-being

People often report that after they start Earthing they feel and look healthier and younger. Those with pain report less pain and even mood improves.

Practicing Earthing

One of the cheapest and most effective ways to ground yourself and practice Earthing is through skin to Earth contact. Whether that’s walking barefoot on the ground, digging your hands into the dirt while gardening, swimming in natural water sources such as a lake or the ocean, or simply laying on the ground – all will expose you to our natural battery source right under your feet.

To be effective, the skin must be in direct contact with rock, dirt or water. The beach/ocean is possibly the best place as not only are sand and salt water extremely conductive, but salt water is also very high in magnesium.

When you can’t go outside to practice grounding (due to weather or other circumstances), you can use grounding equipment. Grounding equipment mimics the electromagnetic frequencies of the Earth. There are grounding mats, sheets, socks, wristbands, patches, and rods that all achieve the same goal of connecting with the Earth.

We are after all bioelectrical, energetic beings, and Earthing rapidly loads up the body’s electrical system, and fast. It’s like charging a battery. The lost contact with the Earth may contribute to electrical imbalances and create an “electron deficiency” in the body, and with it, vulnerability to dysfunction, disorder, and disease. If you’re feeling tired, weak, or depleted, you may not be getting enough Earth energy and Earthing is a great way to plug into nature to improve your health. Why not try it today?

The Electricity of Touch

The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field in the body. The electrical field measured in an electrocardiogram (ECG) is about 60 times stronger than the brain waves measured in an electroencephalogram (EEG).
