Cook Time: 55 Minutes
Total Time: 1 Hr 15 Minutes
Yields: 10-12 Slices
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.
- Combine all dry ingredients in one bowl.
- Combine all the wet ingredients except hot water in a separate bowl.
- Add flour mixture to wet ingredients and mix using an electric mixer or stirring by hand. Once dry ingredients are incorporated, add hot water and mix thoroughly. You’ll want to work swiftly to get it in the oven so the cake rises properly.
- Pour into greased and floured pans.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes.
- Test cake by poking with a toothpick. The cake is done when a toothpick comes out clean. Remove from oven and place cake pans on a baking rack to cool for 10 minutes. Then remove from pans and continue to cool on racks. Once completely cool, frost cake.

- To make straining easier I use a mesh strainer over a pitcher-style 4-cup measuring cup. This makes transferring the stock to the canning jars easier. I do one jar at a time, cleaning out the strainer as needed. the fat will rise tot he top of the jars in the fridge which can be included in whatever you are making or scraped off if your body is not ready for all the fat. Discard the bones and vegetables. Meat still on the bones can be eaten or reserved for soups.
- I love to drink the broth warm with a little sea salt added with meals or use it cook rice or vegetables. I also use it anytime a recipe calls for stock or broth. So delicious healing to your gut!
